Yamunotri
Yamunotri, is the source of the Yamuna River. It emerges from a frozen lake of ice and glaciers on theKalinda Parvat at an altitude of 4421 metres.
Gangotri
Gangotri, the popular pilgrimage destination of Gangotri can be reached from Rishikesh by bus via Tehri and Uttrakashi. This place is the starting points of the trek to Gaumukh (literally cow’s mouth, gau means cow and mukh means mouth), the source of the holy rivers.
Kedarnath
Kedarnath, is a Hindu pilgrimage spot of a great importance. The temple of lord Kedar (Shiva) is surrounded by the snow-capped peaks and dates back to the 8th century. Gangotri is 21o kms. Away from Mussorie and on the right bank of the Bhagitati River (which flows into the Ganges) is temple of Godess Ganga.
Badrinath
Badrinath, is one of the holiest of the four main shrines of Uttarakhand. The temple was built about two centuries ago by the kings of Garhwal. The principal idol in the temple is of black stone and represents Vishnu seated in a meditative pose, and flanked by Nara-Narayan. |
